Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

I just got back from lunch at my grandparents'. The best thing about Christmas truly is spending time with relatives that you don't see that often. Can't say that I don't enjoy the gift exchange though! I love both giving and receiving presents but I have to admit that I'm not a very talanted gift wrapper. My mom is excellent though (as you can see in the pic below) but I guess that the gift wrapping-gene must have skipped a generation!

Today I wore a Marc by Marc Jacobs T-shirt, a stale necklace and pencil skirt from H&M and shoes from Chloé.

My mom's perfectly wrapped presents!

Henri Bendel

Henri Bendel New York

Even though I've been missing in action lately, Christmas preparations have proceeded at my house and a couple of days ago I found a big tree in my living room. With that comes the traditional decorations and I had the priviledge of hanging my personal favorite when I got home from working with the musical. This decoration from Henri Bendel in New York is so cute and so classic! If I remember correctly we got it in 2008, on my parents' and mine second or third visit. To check out Bendel's is definitely mandatory when in the city! I love the cohesive theme of stripes in chocolate brown and white and how classic it is. The hat boxes remind me so much of old movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's and I think that Bendel's things can be used simply as interior design pieces.

Girl in Red..

Blouse, Zara
Jeans, Topshop
Belt, jewellery and booties, H&M
Bag, Alexa by Mulberry

On Sunday I went to my cousins' house, on my mother's side this time, for Glögg (a Christmas-y, wine-based, hot drink). Still trying to get into the spirit of the holidays, I wore red and I matched it with dark skinny jeans, cognac-colored booties and bag as well as gold jewellery which went well with the buttons on the sleeves. These colors work beautifully together, especially during the winter and fall season. Personally I love cognac and camel tones because they don't wash me out too easily despite the lack of D-vitamin this time of year.

The Fashionista Dream

Ad in Vogue, March 2008.

Ad in Vogue, March 2008.

The shoes are almost worth buying simply for the magnificent box they arrive in!

Today I started prepping and thinking about what to bring to Thailand (we're leaving Sunday) and I went through some of my summer clothes and I came to think about this dress which is probably the most special piece that I own. I bought it on sale a few year's ago and it cost me my entire savings at the time. It's from my favorite collection ever made, Prada's Spring-Summer 2008. For that season, Prada hired an artist to paint on fabric and make prints for shoe boxes, bags etcetera. It's plenty of florals and elves and it's all so beautiful!

Over the course of a few months, post-dress purchase, I invested in the other pieces, like these knee socks, shoes and the knitted neck piece. Now the only thing missing is a purse! But to be honest, if it wasn't for the actual necessity of a purse, I wouldn't need it with everything else that's going on.

Looking through my stacks of old Vogue's, I occassionally stumble upon the ads for this collection and since I love mood boards, I always just want to rip them out and put them on my already clattered walls! This collection really represents the fact that I believe that fashion is an artform. Not just literally like in this case, but a way of self-expression and a way to show someone who you are, without even having to utter a single word.

An old classic..

Blouse, vest and shorts, H&M.
Shoes, Marc Jacobs
Last night I went to my aunt's and cousins' house for dinner and the bad weather made me want to dust off one of my favorite fur outfits! I bought all three of these pieces at the same occassion in H&M over two years ago but I still love them! I especially like the mix of materials and patterns and how they complement each other to make for a chic, fall outfit. The fur vest and the rough material of the shorts bring some edge to the sweet blouse.

With all the different colors incorporated in the blouse's pattern, you can pair this with pretty much anything but I choose to wear the outfit with these heels from Marc Jacobs that I found on sale a couple of years ago. Since I'm dressed in different shades of grey from the waist down, it's still a casual look, despite everything that's going on up top.

Fashion genes?

My mom and I at Damernas Värld's annual fashion award show, Guldknappen, in August.

The newest addition to our family jewellery box, "Ringo Blomma" by Sandberg.
Right when I got back from the musical this afternoon my mom came into my room to show me the new ring she got as an early Christmas gift. It's a flower in gold, with a small stone in the middle and a silver band by Sandberg.

Usually I am not at all a fan of mixing gold and silver jewellery but I actually like this ring a lot. It's luxurious without being over the top and on top of that, it's just very cute!

My mom has always been a huge source of inspiration to me and I think it is from her that I get my sense of style. (Sorry dad!) Her style is so unique and innovative and together we make a great styling team! Though we dress differently, we think alike and really complement each other. Of course we disagree at times but she's definitely the one I trust the most when it comes to approving outfits!

RENT!

The crew!
From left: Felicia, Annika, Gustav, Me, Lisa, Sandra and Johanna

Right now I'm in the midst of working as a scenographer for Viktor Rydberg Gymnasium's interpretation of RENT - the musical, and the coming week, my group and I will be working all day, every day to build the set.

The musical is set in New York City's Alphabet City ca 1990 and despite the set being quite rough, it is a hopeful musical with beautiful music that I really recommend for everyone to come see. It's all very exciting and with the premiere less than a month away, on January 13, the excitement increases with every day that passes!

Belated Birthday Celebration!

This is what I wore last night.
Sweater and booties, H&M.
Jeans, Topshop.
Fur coat, Forever 21.
Clutch, Vintage Dior.
Close-up on the shoes with the perfume Daisy by Marc Jacobs.

Last night I went out to celebrate my friend Elise who turned 18 just a couple of weeks ago because I really owed her a night on the town!

On Wednesdays I always try to find a well-balanced outfit. Not too dressy, but still with something a little bit special that I for example wouldn't wear to school. In this case, my focus lay on these new heels! I stumbled upon them two days ago in H&M and simply fell in love! They're classic beige suede stilettos that pretty much go with anything. I can't deny that my feet ache a little today from dancing in them all night but they're definitely worth it!

I paired them with a simple, black skinny jean, a gold/beige sparkly sweater and my grandmother's vintage Dior clutch that has become one of my closet essentials. And of course my new jewellery was represented as well!

Today

Sweater, shorts, necklace and coat, H&M.
Boots, Marc Jacobs.
Bag, Alexa by Mulberry.

Good morning!

Rings, 49.50 kr/st. Necklace, 79.50 kr.
Everything from H&M.

Though the fact that we have a block schedule at VRG gives me three hour-long classes, it also means that I have half-days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and yesterday's free periods were spent at H&M Hamngatan.

I felt the need for some window shopping and maybe a small wardrobe-update and as usual, that brought me to the accessories department! I really do belong to the people who believe in the power of accessories. Adding an effectful ring och throwing on a cool hat can really make or break an outfit.

So I came home with these two rings and a cute necklace! If you wear a small, unique piece, the rest of the outfit doesn't need to stand out as much. This necklace with a bird on it is perfect for an everyday look by simply matching it with a simple, black sweater. Personally I wear it with shorts and boots.

Have a great day!

Where's the Christmas Spirit?

So I was sitting here thinking and it hit me that Lucia 2011 is almost over, and I've barely noticed it! At this time I normally run around town shopping for Christmas presents but this year, it just hasn't happened.

I'm really not feeling the Christmas spirit. Maybe it's becuase I didn't have a traditional Swedish Christmas last year. Instead I attended a cocktailparty thrown by a friend and her host family on Christmas Eve since you, in the States, don't open the Christmas presents until Christmas Day morning.

Yesterday I went to the Viktor Rydberg-schools' Lucia celebration at the Gustav Vasa church but despite the beautiful performance, the only real Christmas reminder I have at the moment, is the star in my window. Let's just pray that this rain stops and trancends into snow soon, because I really need to start shopping for presents!

Welcome to J.Kilnes!

Hi!

Welcome to my blog, J. Kilnes! I love fashion and style and one of my favorite ways to find information is to read blogs! One day it hit me that maybe it was time to "return the favor" and see if I can contribute with some fashion inspiration of my own.

Here on my blog I plan to write about everything from the shiny pages of Vogue to everyday thoughts, and of course everything in between that life has to offer!

Peace, love and fashion,
Julia
